life changing quilt....

It's Blogger's Quilt Fest this week and I knew right away what quilt I wanted to blog about...
This quilt was my first art quilt (1996) it's a replication of The Artist's Garden in Giverny - Monet
It was made in the same way I replicated a Rembrandt with magazine paper in a college art class...This was life changing for me. I had found my medium....fabric...which I like stitched and embellished. Making this quilt changed my life. I knew from the time I hung it up on the wall that this is what I wanted to do...whenever I had the time.
I hand sewed about 1000 (yes I wrote 1000) glass beads on it. I used monofilament thread.
I used 2" squares...I made this in 1996 when watercolor packets were popular...

This was the second quilt I machine was 1996 and not too many were doing it, but I didn't have time to hand quilt. I love to machine quilt and consider it part of the whole design process.

passport holder for a friend...

I made a little passport holder/wallet for my friend Susan for her 50th Birthday!  She is headed to Belgium to meet up with her husband who is stationed in Afghanistan. I don't envy her having a husband serving in the military but I do envy her trip to Europe!
I grabbed some scraps from the Batik basket - don't they blend beautifully?
I used a blue metallic thread for the quilting along with a variegated blue/green. I added some crystals because Susan likes sparkles:)

First Vending Gig 10/23/10

I will be doing my first vending gig this Saturday at the
Upton Woman's Club Fall Fair from 9-2 at the Blackstone Valley Tech High School in Upton, MA!

I made this bag to sell at the Fall Fair. I have been working really hard to have a big selection of Murphy Bags for sale. I also made some cute aprons and a other goodies.
I love this Olive Green on the back and the Pumpkin handle.
My friend Sue gave me a big bag of wool felt. So lucky to have her as a friend~ I decided to make a random patchwork with Fall and Christmas colors for this Murphy Bag with some of the pieces of wool felt. It was so fun to play with the felt, it was easy to stitch through.

If you live in the area please come by and say Hi! There are wonderful vendors - you can check it out on facebook.

New Wallet for Linda!

I made a wallet for my Hair Stylist Linda. We have been bartering for a few years and it has worked out beautifully. I free motion quilted it and added some Swarovski crystals.
I used the basic foundation I learned from my friend June. She may publish a pattern of her design. I changed it a bit this time and put the change section on the outside. There is a nice pocket behind the change purse for receipts, etc. (sorry it's a bit blurry)
I loved choosing the fabric for the interior but it wasn't easy.

She chose this bag a few months ago and now she has a matching wallet.

SAQA Benefit Auction 2010 - happening now!

This week my quilt is up for auction. There are many, many incredible pieces.  The auction benefits SAQA...Studio Art Quilt Associates.

I used my hand dyed fabric to make the foil leaves in a class with Melody Crust while I was in Houston at the International Quilt Festival. I free motion quilted it in variegated cotton thread that coordinated with each color scheme. I used the left overs to make the binding.
